  • Erdogan arrives in Jordan, focus on Syria and Jerusalem

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has met with Jordan's King Abdullah II and discussed the recent clashes between Israeli troops and Palestinians in al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East Jerusalem al-Quds.

A leading Turkish newspaper also claimed Iran made a "surprise proposal" to Ankara to jointly attack Kurdish rebels in northern Iraq during a rare visit by armed forces chief of staff General Mohammad Hossein Bagheri earlier this month.

"The actions of Turkey and Iran complement themselves. This issue has been discussed between the two military chiefs, and I discussed more broadly how this should be carried out", Erdogan was quoted as saying by the Reuters.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the latest regional and worldwide developments as well as prospects of further cooperation and coordination on a number of issues that are related to armed forces.

"Iran is constantly threatened by the PJAK", Erdogan said, adding that he hopes the two countries would get a successful result in this regard.

Yet, developments in the war-torn country caused Turkey to shift its Syrian policy with Ankara has always been not voicing precondition for stepping down of Syrian president as a must for a peace in Syria.

Turkey and Iran have existential issues regarding a common concern; both are home to the region's largest Kurdish populations.

However, Tehran recently joined the chorus with Turkey opposing to the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government's decision to hold a referendum on independence from central government, because both fear the potential effects of Iraqi Kurdish independence on their own restive Kurdish populations.

The PKK, which is outlawed in Turkey, has ties to the Kurdistan Free Life Party in Iran.

"YPG and PYD are terrorist groups that pursue the goal of reaching the Mediterranean Sea", Erdogan said.
