A location scout for 'Narcos' has been found dead in central Mexico.

Carlos Muñoz Portal, 37, was found dead in his auto, his body riddled with bullets, in Temascalapa, a violent region in central Mexico that lies 60km from Mexico City.

According to Variety, the 37-year-old's bullet-riddled body and vehicle were found in a remote area near the borders of Hidalgo state, a hugely violent area of the country. In July, 182 cases of homicide were reported in the densely populated state, a ratio of 12.2 for every 100,000 inhabitants.

Narcos is a hit series about the rise and fall of Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar, and Portal was working as a freelancer for its fourth season, which will reportedly focus on the notorious Juárez drug cartel in Mexico.

Netflix said the facts surrounding his death were "still unknown".

Portal was an expert at wrangling locations on many Hollywood productions in Mexico, including Tony Scott's Man on Fire, Mel Gibson's Apocalypto, the latest James Bond film, Spectre, and Fast & Furious.

Authorities have not yet released any details about a potential motive or suspects. Netflix could not immediately be reached for comment. It's also unclear if this sudden death will delay or halt production of the show. They are supposedly considering a move to Columbia for the next season of filming, which is where the show had started out before moving to Mexico.

Netflix confirmed his passing to the Daily News.
