Kittle meets Kam: Three things to watch as 49ers visit Seahawks

  • Pete Carroll talked to 49ers GM, ex-Fox Sports analyst John Lynch more than he may wish he had

Feelings of excitement, anxiety, and a sense of urgency abound for the Seattle Seahawks and their fans as they head into the home opener against the San Francisco 49ers at CenturyLink Field on Sunday. The first two players were full participants on Thursday in practice, which bodes well for their availability on Sunday in Seattle.

Carroll said the same for the whole team, noting that while the defense kept the Seahawks in the game it also couldn't stop Green Bay from running off the last 6:17 after Seattle closed to 17-9, or stop the Packers from converting 9 of 16 third downs. He was in the booth for Seattle's last game prior to last weekend's 2017 season opener, for Seattle's divisional-playoff loss at Atlanta on January 14. The 29-year-old played in all 82 snaps in last week's season-opening loss to the Green Bay Packers.

RENTON Pete Carroll used to share with John Lynch all kinds of wisdom and philosophies on how he remade the Seahawks into a Super Bowl champion. Former 49ers linebacker Michael Wilhoite, who missed the opener with a calf injury, would start if Garvin is unable to play.

Still, if the Seahawks can't get the running game going at home against the 49ers with projected starting tailback Thomas Rawls back in the fold, it will be fair to ask when they will get it going. "Very smart player, very savvy guy and he knows what he is doing".

"Anxious to see him play and hoping he has a really good clear opportunity to get back in the flow of things", Carroll said.

Kittle overcame an injury last week that had him doubtful for the game just two days before, and he ended up catching five passes against the Panthers. "We are excited to see him back, see what happens".

Seattle has won its last six regular-season games against the 49ers by a combined 147-67, and the last four have come the week after a Seahawks loss.

Griffin has already garnered praise from his teammates, especially Richard Sherman who's unbelievable by his poise for such a young age. That conversation about the specifics of it - I told you I thought the (TV) guys calling the game saw it pretty clearly.

"No. I had no inkling at all", Carroll said this week.

"I don't think there's any question, the way he went about finding his information and getting answers to things. He called me first, I should say", Richardson said.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll would not detail exactly what the National Football League told him this week only to somewhat coyly say he agreed with those on TV such as former National Football League vice president of officiating Mike Pereria who said he did not think it was a good call.
