"We are now trying to seek a solution through negotiations that is acceptable to both sides".

Hua said the boundary between India and China was yet to be delimited: "There are disputes over the eastern section of the China-India boundary".

Japan has a historic connection to the Northeast and is among the few countries that India has allowed a presence in the eight landlocked states which are the country's gateway to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations members.

However, one worldwide issue was not discussed, namely the disputed South China Sea, in contrast to the previous two India-Japan summits where the summit declarations specifically referred to the South China Sea and reaffirmed the commitment to freedom of navigation and overflight. The joint statement issued by the two countries did not specifically mention Arunachal Pradesh, parts of which are claimed by China. "Under such circumstances, various parties should respect such aspects and any third party should not be involved in our efforts to resolve the disputes".

China's foreign ministry spokesperson, however, clarified that both India and Japan can play a constructive role for developing mutual trust and cooperation between regional countries and the peace, stability and development of the region.

The recent visit of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to India and the subsequent talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi saw the discussion of several important issues, including China's expansion through its OBOR (One Belt One Road) initiative, and laying the foundation stone of India's first bullet train, made with the aid of Japan.

BJP president Amit Shah on Saturday asserted that India has the sovereign right to develop the country within its boundaries, dismissing China's objection to Japan showing interests in investment in the North Eastern States. So, I am wondering whether this is the overinterpretation of the media or just like the media's conjecture, both Japan and India have the hidden agenda.

"Our established foreign policy of non-alignment demands we do not fall into someone's strategic space and become their tool, but create it for ourselves to achieve what we want".
