  • Harry Redknapp And Birmingham City Have “Parted Ways”

Redknapp has been replaced by former Republic of Ireland midfielder Lee Carsley.

The 70-year-old manager previously took charge at St. Andrews last season, guiding the club to safety following Gianfranco Zola's disastrous spell in charge.

Saturday's 3-1 home loss to Preston was the final straw and Redknapp finds himself out of work once again.

Yesterday's defeat left Birmingham second from bottom in the Championship, with one win from eight matches.

The club invested heavily over the summer transfer window, with the acquisitions of Sam Gallagher and Jota - however they've failed to make an impact as of yet.

We thank him for all his efforts and wish him good luck for the future.

"The club has tonight parted company with manager Harry Redknapp", Birmingham said in a statement on their website.

Speaking after the Preston game, which saw Daniel Johnson, Jordan Hugill and Tom Barkhuizen reply to Maxime Colin's opener, Redknapp insisted he was still up for the fight.

"We started the second half well, on the front foot, we get a corner then after that they came on to us and we couldn't handle it.

I didn't get the players in I was after in pre-season and suddenly I have got a load of players in", he told the Birmingham Mail. It was just rank, poor play from us that cost us goals.

"I had to do well this year but I would have stayed because I loved it there, absolutely loved my time there". He takes the job in a caretaker role.
