Known as "Aunt V" to her friends, she was born on March 10 1900 and lived in the same house in Trelawney, north west Jamaica all of her life.

Jamaican supercentenarian Violet Mosse-Brown has died at the age of 117, Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness tweeted Friday evening.

Ms Mosse-Brown had two caregivers and spent most of her days resting in the home she shared with her 97-year-old son.

Her eldest child, Harold Fairweather, who was believed to be the world's oldest living child with a parent alive, died a few months ago. She became the oldest living person on April 15, 2017, following the death of Emma Morano who was 117 years and 137 days.

When Violet Mosse-Brown was born, Queen Victoria ruled the British Empire, the Wright brothers had yet to take to the air, the first antibiotics were still three decades into the future and telegrams were the state of the art in global communication. Some family members had removed her from her home in Duanvale, Trelawny with other relatives not knowing where she was.

"I came to look for her this afternoon and was told that she passed", the grieving family member of Moss Brown said.

Barry Russell, who is based in Miami, Florida said, "She died at the Fairfield Medical Centre, in Montego Bay, at approximately 2:30 pm". There was also concern that Brown would miss an appointment scheduled with Guinness Book of World Records officials.
