Running back Jordan Huff scored the go-ahead touchdown with 8:52 left and Northern Illinois used a pair of interceptions returns for touchdowns in the first half to stun Nebraska 21-17 on Saturday in Lincoln, Neb. The veteran now has more interceptions than touchdowns between the four he threw in Autzen Stadium against OR and the three he tossed this week against Northern Illinois. Which, normally would be a great thing.

It was a sad performance for Mike Riley's team as they struggled on the road. Nebraska's quarterback was hit from behind as he threw, and Huskies linebacker Jawuan Johnson picked off an angle route and took it 25 yards the other way for a score.

Tulane transfer Tanner Lee has shown glimpses of his National Football League arm talent in his first two games with the Cornhuskers, but he was intercepted four times against the Ducks and has completed only 52.1 percent of his passes thus far.

Lee capped a 63-yard drive when he called his own number from the 1 to give the Cornhuskers their first lead 17-14 with 11:14 remaining before the Huskies retook the lead 21-17 on Huff's 2-yard run six plays later.

That's not the way to get a win at home.

Nebraska got a break when freshman Marquel Dismuke recovered a fumble at the Northern Illinois 2-yard line after Jalen Embry muffed a punt at the 25. His first interception came on the game's opening drive. "We couldn't get out of the hole".

"Our offensive results... we play as a unit", Riley said "It was obvious, the pressure on the quarterback".

Nebraska Football: 3 takeaways from upset loss vs. Northern Illinois

Nebraska played its worst half of football in the first 15 minutes.

NIU took a 14-0 lead with 1:13 to play in the quarter.

The Huskers narrowed the gap in the third quarter, finding the end zone on Lee's first-ever collegiate touchdown run.

Nebraska had two chances to answer down the stretch, the first drive ended with an incomplete pass on 4th-and-7 at the NIU 33 with 5:31 left.

Nebraska running back Mikale Wilbon will make his first career start in place of Tre Bryant (knee), and Antonio Reed will start at safety in place of Joshua Kalu (hamstring). Lee rushed for two touchdowns, and Drew Brown kicked a 36-yard field goal to account for Nebraska's scoring. He said he planned to have his defensive line coach, Brett Diersen, prep the team and coaching staff. Diersen was a Nebraska coaching intern under Bo Pelini from 2008-10. "That's been us, and I don't like that".

Gifford led the Huskers in tackles with eight total.

After watching his team show the worst and best of itself at OR last weekend, Nebraska coach Mike Riley told reporters his players "should be sick" about losing an opportunity to pick up a key win.
