Both offenses provided plenty of fireworks during a shootout that involved seven lead changes and wasn't decided until the final seconds, but Riley Ferguson (398 yards, six touchdowns, one interception) got the better of Rosen (463 yards, four touchdowns, two interceptions) on an afternoon that made it clear Rosen has to be something very close to flawless in order for the Bruins to be successful. He threw for 463 yards and four touchdowns, which sounds like the leader of the winning team, right?

Afterward came a back-breaking mistake by UCLA.

UCLA answered in two plays with Rosen hitting Andrews for a 65-yard touchdown.

The score gave Memphis at ten-point lead.

Rosen was leading the Bruins (2-1) down the field for a potential go-ahead score in the fourth quarter his pass was intercepted by Memphis cornerback T.J. Carter. Francis' breakup with 56 seconds left sent the Tigers faithful into a celebration.

Star wide receiver Anthony Miller caught 9 passes for 185 yards and two touchdowns for the Tigers. Ferguson tossed touchdown passes of 47, 42 and 33 yards in that second quarter. Running back Darrell Henderson darted 80 yards on the U of M's first play from scrimmage and on first-and-goal from 2 Ferguson found tight end Joey Magnifico for the score. Rosen is a good quarterback, but he wasn't elite, not today. Jalen Starks (7-yard run) and Jordan Wilson (5-yard reception) got the touchdowns on short drives.

Memphis and Ferguson discovered the effectiveness of quick screens to running backs regain the advantage, 20-17.

Rosen's first interception of the day, a pick-six returned 60 yards by Tigers linebacker Tim Hart, turned a 34-31 Memphis lead into a 10-point deficit with seven minutes remaining in the third quarter.

UCLA has given up an average of 331.5 rushing yards over its first two games this season and could be without several defensive starters against the Tigers, who are coming off a 319-yard performance on the ground against Louisiana-Monroe.
