  • Russian Parliament Criticizes N. Korea Missile Launch Urges Diplomatic Solution

Reiterating solidarity with its Asian partners on Friday, France called North Korea's move to build a nuclear and ballistic program a "violation of its global obligations", which put at risk the security of the region and the worldwide community, Xinhua news agency reported.

"Our Embassy in Tokyo and Consulate General in Osaka are closely monitoring the situation and are regularly providing updates to the Filipino community", he said.

The US-drafted resolution passed unanimously on Monday, just one month after the Security Council chose to ban exports of coal, lead and seafood in response to Pyongyang's launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) that appeared to bring much of the US mainland into range.

On Monday, the Security Council unanimously adopted a resolution to impose sanctions on North Korea over its nuclear test on September 3, the ninth United Nations sanctions resolution adopted on North Korea since 2006.

Tensions on the Korean Peninsula escalated recently after US President Donald Trump threatened to deal with the DPRK with "fire and fury" last month.

Seoul's aid to Pyongyang was suspended after the latter conducted its fourth nuclear test in January previous year. The Philippines chairs this year's ASEAN meetings.

"Our final goal is to establish the equilibrium of real force with the USA and make the US rulers dare not talk about military option", Kim was quoted as saying by the official Korean Central News Agency, during a visit to oversee Friday's missile launch.

Russian Federation strongly condemned the latest missile launch by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), as such provocation will further worsen the situation around the Korean Peninsula, the Kremlin said Friday.

The North has confirmed the missile as an intermediate range Hwasong-12, the same model launched over Japan on August 29.

Photo provided by Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on February 13, 2017 shows a test firing of a surface-to-surface medium- and long-range ballistic missile Pukguksong-2 on February 12, 2017. The tests, which could potentially make launches over Japan an accepted norm, are also seen as North Korea's attempt to win greater military freedom in the region and raise doubts in Seoul and Tokyo that Washington would risk the annihilation of a US city to protect them. Kim said the "combat efficiency and reliability of Hwasong-12 were thoroughly verified, operation members' capacity for actual war is also very ideal and the work for increasing combat power of Hwasong-12 has been realized", according to KCNA.

Meanwhile, he noted that the new missile launch proves sanctions and pressure will not work on the DPRK, and that the Korean Peninsula issue should only be addressed with a diplomatic solution. "North Korea's missile launch is another reckless breach of United Nations resolutions, a major threat to worldwide peace and security which demands a global response", NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on social media.

"As recognized by the whole world, we have made all these achievements despite the United Nations sanctions that have lasted for decades", the agency quoted Kim as saying.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has vowed to achieve the final goal of equilibrium of force with the United States, to make Washington dare not talk about military action against the country.
