  • Xiaomi ready to release smart phones with wireless charging

The 2017 iPhone models all support wireless charging for the first time, and apparently the next Xiaomi flagship model will too.

Though the company hasn't officially announced that it has joined the consortium, it has been spotted on the WPC member list (via GSMArena) on the official WPC website. Xiaomi has joined the Wireless Power Consortium, the organization behind Qi wireless charging standard, standing alongside biggies like Apple, Samsung, LG and others.

Pricing of the Mi7 is yet to be detailed but we know one thing; wireless charging is definitely a possibility on the upcoming flagship. To your Mi 7, she will build something like that, and it would need a new processor Qualcomm 835, which will also be released next year.

To make the phone stand out from its competitors, a Snapdragon 845 and wireless charging sounds like a great pair to have. The Mi 7 is said to feature a ceramic design as seen on the existing flagship model - Mi 6 and arrive with dual rear cameras as well.

It's extremely likely that Xiaomi is preparing to launch devices that support the Qi standard although it remains to be seen whether the first Xiaomi-made phone with wireless charging will be the Mi 7.
Just like Apple iPhones, the recent Samsung Galaxy S8 also features glass back to allow wireless charging.

Apple joined the WPC in February this year and thus launching the recent iPhones such as iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X with wireless charging. Those rumours were confirmed On September 12 when Apple unveiled the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and the highly anticipated iPhone X with Qi wireless charging capabilities. This means that Xiaomi does aspire to launch phones with wireless charging in the months to follow.
