DxOMark: iPhone 8 Plus has 'the best smartphone camera' ever tested

There are a number of different images from the new phone comparing the results to the iPhone 8, Google Pixel, and iPhone 7 Plus.

The Pixel used to be the king of DxO until the U11 got the same score of 90.

DxOMark, a company that does a variety of tests in order to determine which handset features the top camera, has awarded the iPhone 8 Plus the best camera score ever given to a smartphone, a rating of 94. The sample photos are indeed rather stunning and I look forward to hearing more about the iPhone 8 Plus from ZDNet reviewers. Its Photo score of 96 is also a new record, blowing past the Pixel's 90.

Most telling to us in DxOMark's review was this series of images showing the evolution in image quality from previous generations of iPhones leading up to the 8 Plus. It is at the top of the charts in almost every category, while its advanced software means it does "an awesome job" at capturing HDR scenes and images with faces in them.

Apple launched its most happening tenth-year commemorative smartphone iPhone 8.

The iPhone 8 Plus' dual camera setup features a 12-megapixel (wide-angle) camera with a f/1.8 aperture, as well as a 12-megapixel telephoto lens with a f/2.8 aperture.

Meanwhile, the regular iPhone 8, with just the one 12MP rear camera on deck, is deemed a "solid performance upgrade over the iPhone 7", yielding 92 points and following its big brother in second place, ahead of the Pixel, U11 and Galaxy S8.

It's very likely that once the iPhone X arrives in early November, it'll dethrone the iPhone 8 Plus, as the dual camera on the iPhone X is slightly better than the Plus.
