Adrian Peterson comes to Arizona, says 'I have so much left'

  • Lawsuit: Adrian Peterson owes $600000 on defaulted loan

Peterson is a four-time first-team All-Pro and was a Pro Bowl selection seven times.

The trade of Peterson to Arizona, in exchange for a conditional pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, freed New Orleans of the complexity of finding reps for a trio of backs and sent Peterson to a team that is in more need of his services.

Peterson believes that you'll see him find more success than he had in New Orleans in his new number. "Just the opportunities I've had to talk to him were brief".

Three days after the Saints signed Peterson, New Orleans traded up to draft Alvin Kamara in the third round, and the rookie has been a playmaker right away, averaging 5.5 yards per carry and hauling in 20 catches over the first four games. I have a lot left in the tank.

"Our relationship, I would say, has been fantastic, and (the trade) was an opportunity really where he was going to obviously get somewhere and be featured more, and I'm happy that that opportunity has come up and we were able to make a trade", Payton said.

Peterson spent just four games with the Saints, but the locker room in New Orleans appreciated his work ethic and his ability as a teammate. I'm going to fight and put my best foot forward. And I'm hoping that he goes and proves it in Arizona. "They are two very complete backs, you know, that can be in in any given situation whether that's running in between the tackles or outside the tackles or catching balls out of the backfield splitting them out, picking up protection - you know those guys can do it all". Turning 30 usually is a death sentence for running backs, but Peterson ran for 1,485 yards and 11 TDs, leading the league in both categories.

Adrian Peterson isn't the first great player to disappear into obscurity in the desert.

Payton has long said he views depth as important at running back, a physical position where injuries are common.

"All the experience he has, he was trying to funnel as much as he could into me", Kamara said. "As I said earlier, if you don't get the pads on him and you don't get multiple sets and take good angles, he's going to break tackles". I know he's been wanting those carries and those snaps. His spectacular effort earned him the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for that year.
