He also said the younger Shah had chose to file criminal defamation suit against the author of the article and the editors of The Wire for Rs 100 crore in Ahmedabad. "Jay carries out a fully legitimate and lawful business on commercial lines which are reflected in income tax (filings) and transactions in banks", Goyal said at a press conference at the BJP headquarters on Sunday evening.

The ruling BJP came under strong attack from the opposition Sunday after a news portal report said some businesses of party chief Amit Shah's son Jay Shah saw dramatic growth since Narendra Modi became Prime Minister in 2014.

If anyone else republish/re-broadcast the imputations made in the said article, whether directly or indirectly, such person or entity will also be guilty of the very same criminal and/or civil liability. "The article shows no impropriety but through malicious imputes, trying to damage reputation of Amit Shah".

Amit Shah with his wife at their son Jay Shah's wedding in Ahmedabad. "The loans taken from NBFCs have been fully paid along with interest after deducting TDS". "Jay responded to the author's questionnaire with full transaction details as he had nothing to hide".

The charge was rejected by the BJP and Shah's son, Jay Amit Shah, who termed the story "false, derogatory and defamatory".

Turning the heat up on Modi and the BJP, senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal said the allegations should be investigated.

"Insinuations have been made that sought to create the wrong perception. We are defending because the party president and the prime minister have been dragged in, and I have an obligation towards the party and the government", The Indian Express quoted Goyal as saying.

"This is nothing but crony capitalism by the BJP".

Amit Shah's son Jay Amitbhai Shah on Monday filed a Rs 100 crores defamation case against the independent news portal "The Wire" over a report claiming his firm's turnover grew manifold after the party came to power. "These dealings should be probed by the Enforcement Directorate and the CBI", Chavan said. "Will you ask ED to arrest these people", Sibal asked at a press conference here.

CPI (M)'s Sitaram Yechury claimed that it is the latest in a series of cases of corruption under the Modi government.

The report also reveals a number of loans received by companies connected to Jay Shah, based on documents filed with the Registrar of Companies.
