Gareth Bale gives full backing to Chris Coleman to remain Wales boss

  • Chris Coleman's Irish heritage will have no effect on his approach to tonight's game

Wales were beaten 1-0 in Cardiff by the Republic of Ireland with Martin O'Neill's side taking their place in the play-offs for Russian Federation 2018. Despite a disappointing qualification campaign for the 2014 World Cup, he guided his country to their first major tournament since 1958 when he secured qualification for Euro 2016.

The squad have given their unanimous support to Coleman and it is also understood that the Football Association of Wales is hoping Coleman extends his stay at the helm.

"There is no question that he is the best manager in Welsh history and nobody wants that to end".

'He's been a massive part of what we have done and he is the man to hopefully take us forward. "Everything was geared towards next summer".

There were high hopes that Wales would go on to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russian Federation but that would not be the case.

Bale is known to be a fan of Coleman and echoed Roberts' sentiments when asked about his national team boss at the start of June.

"We want him to stay because what he's given this nation is something that's never been done before". "What he has done for the team and Welsh football has been fantastic. I'll take some time to let the dust settle and then I'm sure we'll have a sit down and have a chat and we'll take it from there".

Although Coleman refused to give a definite answer about his future, he had earlier hinted that this World Cup campaign would be his final assignment as Wales manager. This has led to reports that Coleman may step down as manager but Gunter has said that he should stay and help them to qualify for Euro 2020. "He has said you're lucky if get you one opportunity in a lifetime to do it".

"We will wait to see if he feels if he can take this team further".

"This was our first defeat at home for four years".

Welsh supporters would have woken up this morning wondering how they are not in a World Cup playoff.

With three Champions League triumphs in the past four seasons, Bale is already arguably Britain's most successful footballing export, and yet he is under greater pressure at the Bernabeu than ever before.
