  • Five Hollywood Studios On Board For Movies Anywhere Service

It's official. "Movies Anywhere" is launching in the US with movies from Sony Pictures Entertainment; Twentieth Century Fox Film; Universal Pictures and Warner Bros.

In recent years, Disney has offered its service while the five other major studios-Fox, Paramount, Sony, Universal and Warners-supported UltraViolet, a similarly conceived service developed by Digital Entertainment Content Ecosystem (DECE) consortium, which included the aforementioned studios, sans Disney.

Rumored yesterday, and then teased via social media hours later, the revamped Movies Anywhere app is expected to launch "any time", per a representative for the studios, with details officially released just minutes ago. With a free Movies Anywhere account, films you purchase via Google Play Movies, Amazon, iTunes, or Vudu will all appear in a combined library - and you won't have to repurchase them to get access.

Disney's Movies Anywhere digital library service is expanding. Now, you'll only ever need to use one app again.

The goal here is simple, and a unified movie collection is great for consumers. "And as Movies Anywhere continues to add more studios, retailers and platforms, the entertainment possibilities are endless".

Only eligible films will be available in the app, such as anything from Disney's own catalog, which also includes everything from Pixar, Marvel Studios, and Lucasfilm, plus movies from four more studios.

Movies Anywhere will initially feature access to a library of over 7,300 digital movies, along with previews and film extras.

Once you've connected all your services you should be able to view your entire movie library in one place, either the Movies Anywhere website, or the Movies Anywhere app which will be on both Android and iOS - at this stage no game console apps have been announced.

Movies Anywhere will roll out first in the USA but will presumably make it to further nations in future. When they connect with a second participating digital retailer and Disney's "Big Hero 6", Universal's "Jason Bourne" and Warner Bros.' "The LEGO Movie" will be added to their digital movie collection.
