The official intimated that Nehra would have called it quits after the third T20I in Australia but for there being a match at his home ground so soon afterwards.

The 38-year-old Nehra was a surprise pick in the Indian team for the ongoing Twenty20 global series against Australia.

Ashish Nehra confirmed on Thursday that he will be retiring from all forms of cricket after the first Twenty20 global between India and New Zealand at Delhi's Feroz Shah Kotla on November 1.

"I always wanted to retire on a high".

A senior source at the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) has revealed to the PTI (Press Trust of India) that the 38-year-old bowler has intimidated his decision to retire to team skipper Virat Kohli and coach Ravi Shastri.

Ashish Nehra has created a buzz in media by his announcement that he is retiring from worldwide cricket.

"Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah are form bowlers and Ashish felt that it's only fair in the interest of the team that they continue", the official said.

Nehra made his senior debut for India during the test series against Sri Lanka in 1999 and helped his country reach the 2003 World Cup final.

"Had there not been a match at Kotla next month, Ashish would have retired after playing the third T20 worldwide at Hyderabad on October 13".

Overall, Nehra has 44 Test wickets, 157 ODI wickets and 34 scalps in T20Is.

It is understood that Nehra won't play even in the Indian Premier League's next season.

Nehra, who took 235 wickets in 163 worldwide appearances, was an integral part of the 2011 World Cup-winning team, although he will also be remembered for his match-winning spell of 6-23 against England in the 2003 edition. However, Nehra couldn't take part in the final due to a fractured finger. He missed a part of the 2017 IPL for the Sunrisers Hyderabad, owing to a hamstring injury.
