  • A large number of daily commuters in Delhi metro are women

The protest came on the heels of the "Metro Fare Satyagraha" by the AAP volunteers against the hike at metro stations across the city on Wednesday and Thursday.

Summary: Services on the violet line of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) remained affected briefly on Friday morning after a suicide bid was made at a Faridabad metro station. Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken will conduct a Save Metro Rath yatra and will take it to various metro stations to protest the hike in fare. He said that "to expose AAP-led Delhi government, Congress workers will distribute pamphlets in which it has been explained how AAP and BJP were misleading the people of Delhi on the metro fare hike". "I am surprised to see the AAP and its students' wing protest the fare hike", Maken said.

After a survey on the benefits and ill effects of the Metre fare hike that was implemented on October 10, the Delhi Commission for Women said that the increase in fare will force commuters to depend on other modes of transportation including women. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has, as of yet, not released an official statement revealing the exact reason behind the problem.

Addressing the protestors, Rai accused the BJP government at the Centre for overnight doubling the Metro fares. "Its part of a conspiracy by central government", Gopal Rai said.

Union Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Puri told the Delhi Government that it would need to pay Rs3, 000 crore annually for five years if it wanted to stop the metro fare hike.
