  • The parents of Sherin Mathews 3 are no longer cooperating with the investigation into their missing daughter

Police were checking on registered sex offenders in the area who might be connected to Sherin's disappearance, but noted there was no evidence she had been kidnapped.

Her father was arrested Saturday for endangering a child but was released Sunday on $250,000 bond.

Police officers and Federal Bureau of Investigation agents were at the home on Wednesday, and served a search warrant to look for evidence.

Volunteers have come to look through the area where Sherin's father says he left the young girl, forcing her to stand outside alone at 3 a.m. for punishment.

Some 15 minutes later, Wesley checked in on Sherin but she was gone and after looking around for her, he said he went inside to do laundry and made a decision to wait until it was light out, to continue searching for her in hopes that she would return home on her own.

Police issued an Amber Alert Saturday afternoon but canceled it Monday after no significant leads turned up in the case.

Mathews, 37, told police he put Sherin in an alley near their house where coyotes previously had been spotted to punish her after she wouldn't drink her milk, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

The parents of a missing 3-year-old Texas girl are no longer cooperating with police according to FoxNews.

The family called police five hours later to report her missing. Police said he and his wife are working with different attorneys. "That's the question we want answered as well", police Sergeant Kevin Perlich told NBC5.

The girl's mother does not face any charges. "It's going to take us a little while to get through the electronic stuff we collected", Perlich said.

The Mathews family adopted Sherin 2 years ago from an Indian orphanage.

Sherin is described as three feet tall and weighs 22 pounds, she has black hair and brown eyes and was last seen wearing a pink top, black pajama bottoms and pink flip-flops. Mathews told investigators it wasn't unusual for the girl to wake up late at night to eat so that her weight would increase, Perlich said. They also are looking at surveillance video from neighbors, officials. The family would feed the child in the day and night.

Williams is said to have developmental issues such as limited verbal communication skills. Meanwhile, some community members have organized their own efforts to find the little girl.
