  • Harvey Weinstein's Lawyer Gave $10000 To Manhattan DA After He Declined To File Sexual Assault Charges

The prosecutors in their Sex Crimes Unit, she said, were not given the opportunity to counsel investigators on what was necessary to capture in order to prove a misdemeanor sex crime before the meeting. "After analyzing the available evidence, including multiple interviews with both parties, a criminal charge is not supported".

Weinstein was sacked from his namesake production company, the Weinstein Company, on Sunday after an investigation by the New York Times found that a series of women had accused him of sexual harassment over three decades. So far, more than 20 women have come forward against the producer.

"The lawyer and Vance both say Boies had no involvement in 2015 when police investigated a model's accusation that Weinstein grabbed her breasts during a meeting in NY".

Once the recording was obtained by police, sources close to the investigation told the New Yorker that they supposedly had enough evidence to prosecute Weinstein.

The NYPD blasted in turn Vance's office, insisting detectives used "well established investigative techniques" and that the audio "was just one aspect of the case" again Weinstein. "It's a case that made me angrier than I thought possible, and I have been on the force a long time". A man who had power over scores of women and their careers. He recalled Vance's push for federal legislation mandating that Apple reverse its encryption for users among his issues with the Manhattan district attorney.

Friedman-Agnifilo accuses NYPD detectives of failing to get proper direction on the surveillance, and that the recording - while "horrifying" - was "insufficient to prove a crime under NY law". The NYPD went back to examine the allegations raised in a New Yorker article. "Boies has also done work for many years for The Weinstein Co".

Vance has been Manhattan's top prosecutor since 2010 and has been involved in numerous city's major cases - from the successful prosecution of an art dealer's $120 million fraud to rounding up more than 100 police officers and firefighters for a massive disability scam.

Soon after, Boies made a big donation to Vance: Campaign finance records show that Boies gave the district attorney's campaign $10,000 on August 24, 2015.

Chief Assistant District Attorney Karen Friedman said that if the office could have prosecuted Weinstein for the conduct that occurred in 2015, "we would have" and that after the complaint was made in 2015, the NYPD - without their knowledge or input - arranged a controlled call and meeting between Gutierrez and Weinstein. Vance's communication director added that, "David Boies did not represent Harvey Weinstein in 2015 during the criminal investigation". Vance met with the Trumps' lawyer, Marc Kasowitz, who later donated $50,000 to the district attorney's 2012 re-election campaign.

Amy Spitalnick, press secretary for New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, said the attorney general declined to comment in response to questions about Vance. "I donated to Cy Vance's campaign because I was and remain extremely impressed by him as a person of impeccable integrity, as a brilliant lawyer and as a public servant with creative ideas and tremendous ability".

"Contributions are, unfortunately, a part of running for office", Vance said Wednesday.

The D.A. defended his decision to drop the case against the Trumps. "We really did what I think the law obligates us to do".
