Sony Will Publish Games on the Nintendo Switch

  • Sony to release indie game on Nintendo Switch

A new game publishing label has been formed under Sony Music Entertainment, Unties, with the intention of publishing games across not just Sony platforms, but others including the Nintendo Switch and PC as well.

But, should Sony Music Entertainment see profitability in publishing games for the Nintendo Switch, there's always a chance - however small - that it could convince its older brother, SIE, to look into a possible collaboration between Sony and Nintendo down the road. This isn't the first time Sony has gone out and published on non-PlayStation consoles.

The thought of Sony publishing a game - through back channels or directly for a Nintendo device has to be one of the strangest announcements of the year. Sony might be looking to stay in the portable market, even if it is only from a software standpoint.

Tiny Metal is going to be released on November 21. There's also Merkava Avalanche by WinterCrownWorks, a "Survival Robot Action" game that I can only describe as Gundam centaurs on wheels. According to Sony, that is precisely why the publishing arm was created. Yes, they're publishing a game on the platform of their long-time rival, Nintendo. Its tentative title is Deemo -Reborn- and it doesn't have a release date, but is confirmed to be coming to PlayStation VR. The company will focus on indie games from the Japanese development scene.

In addition to Tiny Metal, Unties has announced three other games. The developer, Rayark, says the game will support PSVR. Last Standard and Merkava Avalanche do hold a listing of "PC/TBA", however, which suggests that the Switch and possibly the Xbox One could be included in future releases.

Tiny Metal released a Kickstarter campaign on September 19th, 2016 that ultimately met its cancellation a month later falling $17,130 short of its $50,000 goal.

The statement above, taken from the press release, carries additional weight due to the untimely demise of Visceral Games on today.
