Meeting the future in-laws is always daunting, and it's definitely got to test the nerves when you're trying to impress The Queen!

Prince Harry has introduced Meghan Markle to the Queen at Buckingham Palace, it has been reported.

On Friday, Sophie Ellis-Bextor opened up about her friendship with Prince Harry's girlfriend with Hello! at the Pinktober Ball at The Dorchester Hotel.

As fifth in line to the throne, Harry will have to ask the Queen for permission to marry Meghan.

The couple - who made several public appearances together at this year's Invictus Games - were driven into the inner courtyard before being taken to the Queen's private sitting room on the first floor which overlooks the palace gardens and Constitution Hill at around 5pm.

Friends now say it is only a matter of time before the couple tie the knot. This is because there are several important dates in the calendar that can't clash with a royal wedding.

The teatime meeting was deliberately informal, which is no surprise for the very modern Harry, who silenced royal aides with his privacy statement last November warning the media to back off when it comes to his girlfriend.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams believes that an engagement is definitely on the horizon now that Markle has met Her Majesty. Next month, the Queen and Prince Philip will mark their 70th wedding anniversary; then in December, the royal family will retire to Sandringham for Christmas, meaning that the New Year could be the opportune time for an engagement.

As Richard Kay reported, the Queen spent nearly an hour with her grandson and the Los Angeles-born Meghan, who stars in the U.S. legal drama Suits.
