Although Facebook is a social networking site, it also has enormous impact as an advertising platform and news distributor, reaching 2 billion people each month.

'When Facebook was getting going, I had these people who would come up to me and they would say, "I'm not on social media".

Parker said he would tell early holdouts to the platform that "we'll get you eventually".

While social media is a valuable tool to bring together friends and family from all over the world, Parker said it also "changes your relationship with society, with each other". The conversation did veer into Facebook territory and some of the information Parker divulged was bleak to say the very least.

While speaking with Axios, Parker said that the "thought process" held during the creation of Facebook was as follows: "How do we consume as much of your time and conscious attention as possible?"

But in his comments this week, Parker argued that the big brains behind big social networks knew exactly what they were doing when they developed their sites' advertising-based models.

Investors may or may not demand a response from Facebook to explain ethical concerns that have always existed but are now back in the spotlight.

Parker apparently joked that Zuckerberg would probably block his Facebook account after reading his comments to Axios.

Early Facebook adviser Sean Parker on Wednesday slammed the company he played a pivotal role in building.

Like magicians, social media apps "give people the illusion of free choice while architecting the menu so that they win, no matter what you choose", he wrote.

With each like and comment, Facebook is "exploiting" human psychology on objective to keep users hooked on a "social-validation feedback loop", Parker said, adding that it is "exactly the kind of thing that a hacker like myself would come up with".

But in the end, Parker conceded none of these should come as a surprise to innovators like himself and Zuckerberg.

It's something the creators of Facebook understood consciously, he said, but did it anyway.

He added that he, as well as Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook CEO, were well aware of the results that would be produced as a result of the constant social validation.

The billionaire recently founded the Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy.
