Ford EcoSport facelift launched at Rs 7.31 lakh

The Ford India on Thursday launched its much-awaited 2017 EcoSport in India in both diesel and petrol variants with a starting price tag of Rs 7.31 lakh (ex-showroom). The vehicle comes gets some updates to its exterior as well as interior, not only this, it also gets a Ford's new 1.5-litre Dragon petrol engine that makes 121 bhp of maximum along with the previous 1.5-litre diesel engine that develops 99bhp.

The Ford EcoSport facelift will have new 17-inch alloy wheels. "With its best-in-class power, safety, convenience and value proposition, it delivers significantly more at the same price".

Flanking the grille are new projector headlamps which are larger in size and also feature integrated LED daytime running lights.

Ford is all set to launch to launch the Ecosport facelift in India today. The biggest change being the addition of the new 8-inch touchscreen display for the infotainment system. It can also be operated through voice commands and steering mounted controls.

"The all new EcoSport reinforces our commitment to the Indian market.We have increased the level of localisation to 85 per cent from around 60-65 per cent when the model was first launched in 2013", Ford India Managing Director and President Anurag Mehrotra told reporters here.

All five subcompact SUVs are offered with diesel variants. The current 1.5-litre Ti-VCT is replaced with the 1.5-litre Dragon engine with a power output of 123 hp at 6,500 rpm and 150 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm. While the Ford Ecosport, Tata Nexon, Honda WR-V and the Mahindra TUV300 offer 1.5-litre turbo diesel engines, the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza offers a 1.3-litre diesel. Besides this, there will be a 5-speed manual gearbox for standard variant.

Other changes include a brand new but bare-bones instrument cluster, new air vents for the A/C whose controls are borrowed from the Figo and feature a piano black surround, twin USB ports and numerous storage spaces. Two front airbags and ABS will be standard across all variants. Company officials say the outgoing EcoSport's saw 7-10 percent sales of the automatic variant and expect the facelifted model to achieve the same if not more, given the growing demand for automatics in urban India. This unit produces 99 BHP @ 3,750 rpm and 205 Nm of torque @ 1,750-3,250 rpm and is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

For safety objective, the auto comes with six airbags for the top version.
