  • Android 8.1 Oreo Shrinks Inactive App Cache To Save Storage, Flags Battery Hog Apps

Reducing the cache size will only slow down the app launch when you open the app next time.

Action required: If you aren't already doing so, you must explain to users how your app is using the 'android.permission.BIND_ACCESSIBILITY_SERVICE' to help users with disabilities use Android devices and apps.

Google's reason for the crackdown likely stems from the simple fact that developers can use Accessibility Services to affect the behavior of other apps with their apps.

Apps requesting accessibility services should only be used to help users with disabilities use Android devices and apps. If they are unable to convince the company within 30 days of receiving the mail, their apps will be taken down in the Play Store. The email instructs developers to inform users how they use the Accessibility services.

Google plans to remove all apps that do not comply with its " Permissions policy and Prominent Disclosure requirements", the search giant announced. These same services can also help apps read information from other apps-creating potential security issues either way.

Take LastPass for example, as this app uses the Accessibility Services API to distinguish the password field in other types of apps. If notifications are the ones that are draining your battery you can easily disable them and continue to use your application. All violations are tracked.

As per XDA Developers, the Android 8.1 Oreo update has a new feature that will automatically flag apps as inactive and will deprioritize the cache files for the specific app. Serious or repeated violations of any nature will result in the termination of your developer account, and investigation and possible termination of related Google accounts. Well, that's just fine and dandy, but what about those apps that are using the API for the right goal - to help disabled people?

The new directive could have major ramifications for several apps, especially those intended for customisation or power users.

The developers of Google has completed the process of modernization of the Android operating system 8.1 Oreo.
