  • Watford rebuff Everton move for Marco Silva

Paul Joyce of the Times has this afternoon revealed the financial details of Everton's offer to Watford for manager Marco Silva.

Despite having suffered a dip in form, losing their last three consecutive matches prior to the global break, the Hornets now find themselves in ninth place, six positions and four points ahead of Everton, who have endured a nightmare start to the campaign.

The Portuguese nearly pulled off a miracle by keeping Hull in the Premier League last season before switching to Watford, where he has also started well.

Silva wants the chance to talk to Everton, but does not have a release clause in the two-year deal he signed over the summer.

The Everton board are now believed to have made the former Hull manager their top target but the report says that any chance of sealing a deal is unlikely unless Silva kicks up a fuss at Vicarage Road or an offer is made that Watford can not turn down.

Over the weekend Silva, 40, emerged as the new frontrunner for the Toffees post, and then tonight (Monday) the Merseyside outfit made a decision to try their luck by knocking on Watford's door. No Hornets boss has managed more than 50 games since the days of Gianfranco Zola, and to lose Silva after just 11 league games would be a huge blow for the club.

Silva is understood to be Everton's preferred candidate amid doubts over the attainability of both Sam Allardyce and Burnley boss Sean Dyche.

Dyche, thought to be keen on talking to Everton, would cost £2.5 million in compensation.
