New App Removes "Notch" From the iPhone X

  • iPhone X iOS 11.1.1 gets jailbroken

While the iPhone X is getting strong reviews, many fans are not happy about the notch, the big obstructing bezel on the top of the display which houses the cameras, sensors and speaker. Well, except for that quirky notch at the top. Thankfully, a developer called Axiem Systems has chose to take advantage of this hatred by releasing an app simply dubbed Notch Remover.

It should be noted that Notch Remover simply modifies the wallpaper to adjust for the notch and make it invisible.

The bluntly named "Notch Remover" app does it exactly what its name suggests. Users will still have to gaze at the notch in apps and while watching videos. "Check out some of the awesome results in the screenshots!", the app's description reads.

While apps of this nature are usually forbidden by Apple's developer guidelines, the tech giant has surprisingly approved the feature. Despite what appears to be a pretty blatant violation, Notch Remover managed to slip through by way of careless vetting, or Apple willingly allowed it. It just masks it by placing a more traditional black bar across the top of the screen that then must be assigned to your wallpaper in the iOS settings. I couldn't find any confirmation, but it seems like this app would only apply to the home screen and lock screen. The latter would indicate an admission of sorts that Apple's design is flawed, though do not expect the iPhone maker to ever admit that.
