  • Man opened fire near Rohini court complex

A man facing trial for cheating was shot dead in a court complex here on Monday, police said.

The accused posed as a litigant, the police said.

"Khan shot Vinod in the back when the latter was being escorted inside the court complex under police security by the Third Battalion, which is in-charge of escorting undertrials to court from prisons and back".

A case under section 302 (punishment for murder) has been registered against Abdul Khan at the Prashant Vihar police station. The killer, Abdul Khan, was overpowered and arrested by the police.

This is the second such incident in Rohini court after in April this year.

"Khan was not more than 10 metres from Balle when he fired at him". Another man who suffered bullet injuries was rushed to the nearest hospital.

The incident has raised questions over the security of the court as to how the attacker managed to sneak into the court complex with a gun. Rishi Pal, DCP Rohini, said that the accused was taken into custody from the spot and the weapon was recovered from him. The victim, Vinod, who was being tried in a cheating case, was shot while being escorted into the court premises around 11:20 a.m.

Police said that the accused initially claimed to be a juvenile, but later it was found that he is 24 years old and has a wife and a child. When the businessman came across the fact that Vinod had cheated him by handing him fake documents, he demanded his money back. The Rohini Bar Association criticised the lack of adequate security arrangements in the court premises. "The incident created chaos in the court and everyone started running here and there". The prisoner, who was shot in this case, was arrested in December 2016 from Agra, for a murder.
