As such, Pirro has offered Trump advice on matters foreign and domestic, with a recent report indicating that she advised the president to appoint a special counsel to investigate the alleged misdeeds of Hillary Clinton, including the former secretary of state's involvement with the Uranium One deal.

Asked in a House Judiciary Committee hearing whether he would review requests for a prosecutor "fairly and expeditiously", Sessions confirmed he would.

"We will use the proper standards, and that's the only thing I can tell you Mr. Jordan", Sessions said.

"We know the Clinton campaign, the Democrat National Committee, paid for through the law firm, paid for the dossier".

As The Times reported, "Donors related to Uranium One and another company it acquired contributed millions of dollars to the Clinton Foundation, and Bill Clinton received $500,000 from a Russian bank for a speech".

It also follows interviews in which Mr Trump said he was "very frustrated" that he couldn't get the department of Justice or FBI to investigate what he believed was wrongdoing under his predecessor.

"Everybody is asking why the Justice Department (and FBI) isn't looking into all of the dishonesty going on with Crooked Hillary & the Dems".

The Washington Post reported that the justice department is considering a special counsel to investigate numerous matters after House Judiciary Committee Chairman Rep.

Some conservatives say a special counsel appointment could have consequences far beyond Clinton.

Former FBI chief, Robert Mueller, is now investigating links between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation during the run-up to last year's election. Is a special prosecutor needed to investigate Clinton's dealings?

McCarthy also said he thought it was a mistake, legally and politically, for the Justice Department to publicly suggest that it might appoint a special counsel.

"It seems they're frustrated by the Mueller investigation, and they think, 'Why don't we get one to look at the Clinton stuff?' And that's just not the way it's supposed to work", he said.

"After another heated exchange, Sessions said, "'Looks like' is not enough basis to appoint a special counsel". "You should never float the idea on your side, because when you float the idea, you are at least suggesting there's a possibility you may not be capable of doing the job yourself for ethical reasons".
