Didier Drogba will call time on his playing career after the 2018 United Soccer League (USL) season to focus on other projects.

The 39-year-old - who scored some 164 goals over two spells with the Blues and helped them win the 2012 Champions League final - is now playing for American club Phoenix Rising in the second-tier United Soccer League, where he is a co-owner. Last year, with one game a week, everything went well.

Speaking to RMC (h/t Ian Holyman of ESPN FC) the Ivorian icon said the next campaign with Phoenix Rising FC, where he is the player-owner, will be the last before he retires.

A true power-playing centre-forward, he won four Premier League titles at Stamford Bridge, as well as four FA Cups, three League Cups and a memorable Uefa Champions League in 2012. "There comes a time when you have to stop. It's good to play, but at 39, it holds me back a bit".

Didier Drogba has revealed Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich's defiant response when confronted over the number of managers he has sacked at Stamford Bridge.

According to the Daily Mirror, Drogba made 381 appearances for Chelsea across two spells, scoring 164 times in the process.

The former Marseilles striker twice won the prestigious Caf African Footballer of the Year Award.
