Wizz Air (W6, Budapest) has announced it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) for the purchase of a further 146 Airbus A320neo Family aircraft entailing seventy-two A320neo and seventy-four A321neo.

Airbus has turned its fortunes around at the Dubai Airshow with a mammoth order of 430 jets worth a total $49.5 billion.

An Airbus A320neo of Hungary's Wizz Air, an airline in which Indigo Partners is a major shareholder.

Indigo Partners' managing partner, Bill Franke agreed the deal with Airbus after he flew into the Dubai Air Show earlier Wednesday.

Such a large order could be split between the makers, but Boeing has the advantage as flydubai's current supplier, industry sources said.

The deal, a mix of A320neo-family orders and future commitments, would end Airbus's sales slump this year and give departing sales chief John Leahy one final triumph before he heads into retirement.

Franke's Indigo Partners, which controls Denver-based Frontier Airlines and owns part of Mexico's Volaris, is known for unbundled or a la carte fares in so-called ultra-low-cost airlines, where passengers are offered cheap base prices with the option of paying more for extras. Airbus declined to comment.

The airline had announced orders for 288 planes as of the end of October.

The air show is proving a positive one for Airbus, who began the annual event lagging behind rival Boeing in the order department in 2017, so far.
