Atlanta Reporter Drags Racist Viewer Who Called Her The N-Word

  • Sharon Reed CBS46 anchor blasts viewer for calling her a'n***r

Reed said she wouldn't make the same mistake and mischaracterize the email sender's viewpoint.

"You [are] what's wrong with the world", she goes on to say and tells Reed she should be fired for "race-baiting".

She did email the viewer back and said thanked her for "making the show".

After reading the email aloud, Reed said the viewer mischaracterized her comments. It's one we're having tonight because it's one that many of you are having at home.

Race has taken center stage in Atlanta as the city, which hasn't elected a white mayor since 1973, voted in a tightly contested run-off election between two candidates, one white (Mary Norwood) and one black (Keisha Lance Bottoms).

"I'm going to hold it, because I think there's some confusion behind the scenes", Reed responded, before explaining that she never said white people couldn't talk about racial issues. So I won't mischaracterize your view either, Kathy Rae.

"On Dec. 5, 2017, you think it's OK to call this journalist a n****r", she said. "I don't, but I could clap back and say a few things to you", the anchor added. But instead, I will let your works, Kathy Rae, speak for themselves.

Reed was a part of a recent on-air discussion that, apparently, irritated one of the viewers so much that she wrote a scathing email.

Sharon Reed of CBS46 publicly shared an email from someone known as Kathy Rae, who used a racial slur in describing the journalist. "And that's the last word". "It's also worth noting that Bottoms was the default Democrat in the nonpartisan race and Norwood was a closet Republican".

"Not the first time I've been called that word", she wrote. "You are what I call a N****r not a black person".

Kathie Rae didn't want Reed talking about race, but Reed wasn't backing down. Taylor, then 36, had been the subject of what a 2002 Daily News article calls "foul, scatological, racist, sexist" messages posted to online TV forums which she believed were authored by Reed.

Reed said the response has been "nice" and acknowledged that while everyone can have their own and differing opinions, they must be responsible for them, too.
