Israeli troops stationed on the borders between southeast Gaza Strip and Israel shot and wounded six Palestinians on Thursday, medical sources said.

According to initial reports, "a red alert was activated" by the app in that region.

The Israeli military said two rockets were launched toward Israel, but fell short of their intended destination and landed inside Gaza.

The attacks come one day after President Donald Trump controversially announced that the United States would recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital and begin the process of moving the U.S. Embassy there.

"Hamas movement is acting in a powerful manner for the launch of a new Intifada against the Israeli occupation; we need to formulate new strategies and polices to counter the threat and conspiracy against Jerusalem, against Palestine", he said.

The IDF confirmed the use of a tank and an IAF to strike Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip. In the blast and its aftermath, 12 members of the terrorist group were killed, along with two Hamas operatives.

The Spokesperson's Unit also confirmed a third rocket that was sacked toward Israel and reached Israeli territory.

Clashes erupted between Israeli occupation forces and Palestinians amid rallies organized on Thursday by Palestinians; injuring many Palestinians and arresting 36 others.

The Palestinians seek Israeli-annexed east Jerusalem, captured by Israel in 1967, as a future capital.
