Sydney Airport delays as computer glitch causes terminal chaos

If there's anywhere you would want to avoid this morning, it would be Sydney airport...

Travellers flying out of Sydney Airport are being told to expect some flow-on delays after a technical problem caused early-morning chaos for thousands.

T1 returned to normal, while T2 took a little longer to return to normal. "We are working hard to catch up any delays", it said.

A spokeswoman for Qantas told Daily Mail Australia terminal 3 had not been affected, and flights were running as normal.

Sydney Airport released a statement about six am, blaming "technical issues" at T1 and T2, which were causing interruptions to passenger processing and delays.

"There may be some delays as a result, however guests are advised to arrive at the airport as planned for their upcoming Virgin Australia flight", it posted on Twitter.

Passengers said they had been waiting for nearly two hours as the departure lounge was cordoned off.

Virgin Australia said that "due to a technical issue" passengers were being processed at reduced capacity.

In July past year, Jetstar flights faced a string of delays across Australia, following a system outage originating from Sydney Airport.

At this stage no outbound passengers are leaving from Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 and flights are being held or rescheduled.
