U.S. military parade to be held on Veterans Day

U.S. military parade to be held on Veterans Day

Military parade will be held on the instruction of President Donald Trump who had directed Pentagon to hold a large-scale military parade to contributions of veterans throughout the history of the USA military, starting from the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812 to today. Also participating will be veterans groups and the ceremonial Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps.

His original vision for the parade, in which soldiers would march down boulevards alongside tanks, was expected to cost between $10 million and $30 million, White House budget director Mick Mulvaney said last month.

It added that the parade would focus on the contributions of USA military veterans throughout history, starting from the American Revolutionary War.

"Include wheeled vehicles only, no tanks - consideration must be given to minimize damage to local infrastructure", the memo said. And, Trump had told the Washington Post in January 2017 that he wants to put the military on display. Trump should be surrounded in the reviewing area at the Capitol by veterans and Medal of Honor recipients, the memo said.

However, due to the millions of dollars it would cost and the potential damage it could cause the streets of Washington D.C., tanks will not be used in the parade like the Paris Bastille Day parade that inspired Trump in the first place.

But the event will include plenty of airplane flyovers, according to a memo from the office of Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, whose staff will be in charge of planning the parade.

The parade "will integrate with the annual D.C. Veteran's Day Parade", and will also "highlight the evolution of women Veterans formations in World War II to today's integrated formations", the memo states. "But the generals would love to do it, I can tell you, and so would I", Trump told Fox News in February.

"Being a great president has to do with a lot of things, but one of them is being a great cheerleader for the country", Trump said.
