Fiji Beat Kenya To Win Canada Sevens

Kenya lost 12-31 to Fiji to grab 19 points in the Vancouver leg of the 2018 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.

Awaiting Fiji in the quarter-finals are Argentina, runners-up to England in Pool B. Fiji (101 points) now sit eight points behind leaders South Africa (109) and nine points ahead of third-placed New Zealand (92).

"We've had a lot of games against them so far this season and they've done a job on us a few times, so it was good to get over the line against what is a very strong side to deliver a really pleasing result".

After going to the halftime break locked in a scoreless draw, the US ran in three second half tries to end New Zealand's run at the Canadian leg of the world series circuit.

With Fiji leading 12-7 going into the second-half, it was Kenya who responded first with a try from Eden Agero within 19 seconds.

After the final, Tuwai said he was proud of his young side. Kenya were first to put points on the board with a try from Collins Injera, Fiji followed with two tries from Kalione Nasako and Eroni Sau, but also saw Waisea Nacuqu sin binned before the break.

Fiji had nearly no possession in the first half - making only four passes to Kenya's 20 - but managed two breakaway tries from kickoffs to keep the match in the balance at halftime. New Zealand went on to make it three from three with wins over Russian Federation 31-5, and the Blitzbok 33-14.

Kenya had reached the semis with a 12-0 quarter-final win over England, their first over that side since 2011.

Fiji signalled their intentions for the day with a 43-7 quarter-final thrashing of Argentina.

Standing between New Zealand and a place in the semi-finals are the United States, the Las Vegas winners who were second-place finishers in Pool A behind Australia.
