Notre Dame Basketball: Irish will be a 1-seed in the NIT

The Nittany Lions didn't make the NCAA tournament after finishing this year with a 21-13 record.

With the win the Fighting Irish move on to next Saturday's Big Ten Tournament Championship game where they will face the victor of the Ohio State vs. MI game while Penn State will await a possible at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament during the selection show next Sunday.

-Penn State sees its five-game winning-streak snapped as well as its five-game Big Ten Tournament winning-streak as they fall to 7-4 all-time in the tournament.

"Playing in the postseason provides us with an incredible opportunity for our team to continue to develop and get better", said Penn State coach Patrick Chambers, who has directed the Nittany Lions to 21 victories in 2017-18, the third-highest win total in program history.

"We came out of our zone with speed and we had a couple good opportunities", Irish coach Jeff Jackson explained.

USC will play UNC Asheville on Tuesday night in its first appearance in the NIT since 1999.

More on the housekeeping side of things, Penn State is a four-seed on its side bracket and will host Temple in the first round of the tournament. They host the Owls on Wednesday at 8 p.m.in the Bryce Jordan Center on ESPNU. The Nittany Lions made a late-season push to make the bubble for the big dance, but it wasn't quite enough. "We're not done with this season and I think this is a special group and we have something special going on here so the more games we play we just want to enjoy it and not take it for granted".

Penn State last played in the NCAA Tournament in 2011.
