White House considered as venue for a Trump-Putin meeting

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders did not confirm an invitation had been issued to Mr Putin, but said the two had discussed a number of venues for a potential meeting, including the White House.

"We have nothing further to add at this time", she said. No date for the possible meeting was set, the Kremlin said, according to the AP.

Donald Trump greeted families attending the annual White House Easter egg roll event.

"Trump proposed holding a meeting at the White House in Washington", Putin's top foreign policy aide, Yury Ushakov, told reporters.

The March 4 attack on Mr Sergei Skripal and his daughter in England has triggered a wave of tit-for-tat expulsions of diplomats between the West and Russian Federation and sent relations plunging to new post-Cold War lows.

But the governments didn't have time to begin making arrangements before the United States joined Britain and more than two dozen allies in sanctioning Russia over the nerve-agent poisoning of a Russian ex-spy in England Trump and Putin had a chat on March 20 in when The Donald congratulated him on winning the Russian presidential election two days earlier.

The U.S-Russia expulsions - together, one of the largest since 1986 - threaten to uproot how the two countries have worked together in numerous delicate worldwide situations, including the conflict in Syria and nuclear tensions on the Korean Peninsula.

Then U.S. President congratulated Putin on his victory in the presidential election.

Russian Federation denies involvement and has retaliated against the diplomatic sanctions in kind.

In face of Russia's growing global isolation after chemical attack in UK, Kremlin tried on Monday to mend ties with U.S., and especially with President Donald Trump.

Both presidents held ir first meeting last July in Germany and were seen again in November at a summit in Vietnam.
