DiVincenzo, who was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player after dumping a career-high 31 points on MI in the NCAA title game, was ridiculed afterwards for a series of regrettable Twitter posts that followed him from his youth all the way to the greatest moment of his life.

Villanova head coach Jay Wright waves the Villanova "V" to the fans while cutting the net after beating MI to win the NCAA National Championship on Monday, April 2, 2018, at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

"I did not think I was going to have this kind of night", he said, "because every night I come into a game, I just try to bring energy".

Thousands of Villanova Wildcats fans poured into the streets of suburban Philadelphia after the school beat MI on Monday night to win its second men's national basketball title in the last three years.

Donte DiVincenzo joined the elite group of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Bill Walton and Jack "Goose" Givens for players that have scored 30 or more points on over 66 percent shooting in the national title game.

Mikal Bridges finished with 19 in what could be his final audition for the National Basketball Association. "[The Wolverines] did a great job of making it hard for Jalen and Mikal, and they were just making the right play". We'll get final numbers for the game - including total viewers - later this afternoon. "And Omari [Spellman] was setting great screens and getting me open".

As DiVincenzo was on his way to scoring a career-high 31 points in the Wildcats' victory over MI, his sudden celebrity led some on social media to look up his account.

The top-seeded Wildcats (36-4) won by margins of 26, 23, 12, 12, 16 and 17. Villanova also has a reliable freshman guard in Collin Gillespie, who helped spell Brunson late in the second half due to foul trouble.

The Wolverines lost in the final game for the second time under head coach John Beilein. "I wish we would have maybe gone out and doubled him or something".

The rest of the team can flow with DiVincenzo as if it's the most natural thing, as if his 31 points and driving dunks and wink-inducing three-pointers are exactly what the Wildcats expected. "Sometimes those individual performances just beat you, and you just say, 'OK, we played you the best we could, and tonight, you were better than us'". MI was able too defeat Loyola-Chicago, but never seemed to be in the same league as the Jayhawks or Wildcats despite their Big 10 title and 14-game winning streak.

"All he wants to do is play", DiVincenzo's mother, Kathy, told The New York Times after her son was named the Final Four's most outstanding player. They'd held Villanova's vaunted, best-in-the-nation offense to 8 points, running their shooters off the 3-point line while pounding the ball inside to German giant Moe Wagner.

"We were losing to North Florida in the second half of the first game of the year", Beilein said. And his teammates were more than willing to let him steal the show.
