Lorde apologises for 'poorly chosen' Whitney Houston quote

Lorde apologises for 'poorly chosen' Whitney Houston quote

Hopefully, Lorde won't put her foot in her mouth again.

The Instagram photo featured a bathtub and was captioned "And iiii will always love you" - referencing the late Houston's hit '90s cover song.

Lorde is really regretting the song lyrics she wrote in the caption of an Instagram gone wrong.

She finished the apology saying, "love Whitney forever and ever.it is not my f. day today".

The Royals star, 21, was swiftly criticised for being insensitive and her social media followers encouraged her to delete the post. "I like lorde but this is truly disgusting", one fan wrote.

Houston, aged 48, was found face-down in a bathtub with cocaine in her system in 2012. Fans were upset that Lorde used a photo of a bathtub with Houston lyrics because Houston died in a bathtub.

Lorde previously paid tribute to Whitney Houston a year ago during the Australian leg of her Melodrama World Tour.

Prior to her apology, fans could not stop arguing whether the post was intentional or just simply a mistake.

She has since deleted the photo from her Instagram following the statement via Instagram Stories. The problem? Whitney Houston, who arguably recorded the most iconic version of the single (it was originally Dolly Parton's), died from accidental drowning in a bathtub back in February 2012. Most fans seem to think that Lorde's apology was honest and that she really was just excited about taking a bath.

Whoops! On Thursday, the New Zealand-born singer post an Instagram snap from her "day off".
