Parliament Disruption: BJP MPs to go on hunger strike to counter Opposition

Both the BJP and the Congress have made a decision to go on a fast accusing each other of dragging politics and parliamentary proceedings to a new a low.

In a bid to counter Bharatiya Janata Party's fast scheduled to take April 12 against the Opposition for stalling the Parliament's proceedings, Congress had called out for a counter fast on April 9 in order to protect and promote communal harmony across the nation.

"The Congress party is intolerant of the mandate given to (Prime Minister) Narendra Modi in 21 states", Union Parliamentary Minister Ananth Kumar told NDTV as he and other MPs marched across the parliament complex holding yellow posters and placards and shouting slogans. The BJP has accused opposition parties especially Congress and Sonia Gandhi of disruption of the parliament.

The National Democratic Alliance MPs had announced they would forego salaries for 23 days due to the washout of the second half of the budget session due to opposition protests. While the BJP has been working to unite society, the opposition wants to divide it, he said. Facing the heat over violent protest, PM Modi said that all BJP MPs will be reaching out to various villages and share Centre's idea of welfare. he said that between April 14 and May 5, the MPs will visit 20,844 villages with over 50% population of scheduled castes and tribes to spread various measures opted by the Centre for their welfare.

With the BJP celebrating its 38th foundation day, Modi said it has become the largest party due to the people's blessings and tireless efforts of its workers and also paid tributes to many of its late leaders and workers.

The foundation day is dedicated to those who sacrificed their lives for the party's growth, the prime minister said. The BJP did not focus on casteism or dynasty, he said. On the other hand, the opposition parties are complaining that they are not being let to raise the issue matter to them.
