Popular Indian actor was given five years in prison for killing antelopes

It was hot and humid outside the court of chief judicial magistrate, Jodhpur rural, and yet a big crowd gathered here on Thursday to know the fate of film stars Salman Khan and others who were accused of poaching two black bucks way back in 1998.

For Salman, affectionately known as "Bhai" in the film fraternity, everyone is keeping their fingers crossed over the court hearing on the actor's bail plea.

"He has filed an appeal and the appellate court will decide whether they will hear the appeal tomorrow or at another date", prosecutor Bhawani Singh Bhati told reporters. While his c0-actors were acquitted from the case, Salman wasn't spared, and the decision became an worldwide news yesterday, as his fans and the nearly all of Bollywood industry came together to criticize the sentence and plead that there should be some kind of mercy for the actor.

He has been in Jodhpur Central jail since the verdict. Additonally, a penalty of Rs 10,000 was also imposed on Khan.

Last year, a second court at Jodhpur acquitted Khan at a split up poaching instance, judgment that there wasn't any proof that Khan had killed an endangered gazelle. According to some reports, Preity Zinta was let inside the jail directly, whereas, if a common man comes to meet a prisoner, the person is asked to wait for hours.

A Jodhpur court found Salman, one of India's most recognisable and bankable actors, guilty of hunting two blackbucks while working on the film "Hum Saath Saath Hain" in 1998.

Khan, who has never married, was accused of assaulting former Miss World Aishwarya Rai during a closely-watched relationship which ended more than a decade ago.

Slated for Eid release this year, "Race 3" is co-produced by Salman and Tips Industries Ltd, and stars Jacqueline Fernandez, Saqib Saleem, Bobby Deol, Daisy Shah and Anil Kapoor.

That could well be the name of a group of actors from Bollywood who have served time.

Khan was convicted under Section 51 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972. The previous cases involved him in varied cases of poaching chinkaras and blackbucks. The state government moved the sessions court on 7 March, 2017 challenging the trials court's order of acquittal.

Jodhpur: Actor Salman Khan has to spend another night in Jodhpur prison after a court here on Friday chose to reserve its order on the actor's bail plea until Saturday.
