Tottenham Hotspur then won 2-1 with a double from the in-form Christian Eriksen at Stoke City to join third-placed Liverpool on 67 points and take closer order in the three-way battle for the runners-up spot.

Harry Kane was back to lead Spurs in his first start for almost a month after recovering from an ankle problem but it was their great Dane Eriksen who struck twice in 11 minutes after halftime to take his tally to five goals in three games in all competitions.

Harry Kane made his return for Spurs after almost a month out with injury but it was Eriksen who orchestrated the victory with two goals in 11 second-half minutes, taking his goal tally to five in three games in all competitions.

"We've played Arsenal and Spurs in the last two games and we should have probably picked up points that we deserved".

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has insisted that Toby Alderweireld's fall from favour is neither personal nor related to his contract impasse with the club.

"First of all our target is top four", said the Spurs boss. Of course, we feel confident, we trust, we work in a very good atmosphere because we beat a very good opponent.

A goal in each half from Jonjo Shelvey and Ayoze Perez gave Newcastle United a precious 2-1 victory over Leicester City, a third win in a row that moves the Magpies into the top half of the league.

Stoke levelled soon after, however, as Lloris smashed a clearance against Diouf and the striker tapped into the empty goal.

Kane later tweeted: "Definitely claiming that goal, flicked off my shoulder on the way in". I'm not comparing my salary with others.

"He (Kane) said it touched his shoulder but I don't know".

Stoke manager Paul Lambert was left frustrated with yet another loss. Even against Man City we had a reasonable game and never got really cut open.

"Yes, he's going to arrive, ok we need to see him one training session more today after the press conference". Rotation sometimes is because of performances, sometimes it's to provide the team with fresh legs or for different reasons that we have in our ideas or our plan for the team.
