Narine stars as KKR edge past RCB

Kolkata's experiment to push Narine to the opener's slot had worked well last season and the southpaw's free-flowing style did the job again for his side. A surprise element will be the leadership of Dinesh Karthik, who has already displayed his worth in national colours.

Sunil Narine scored yet another quickfire fifty to put Kolkata Knight Riders on a winning path but it was Nitish Rana, who played a key role with ball as well as bat to outplay Royal Challengers Bangalore by four wickets at the Eden Gardens on Sunday.

Well, talking about Virat Kohli's Squad, RCB's got a solid start from their opening batsman Brandon McCullum who played a brilliant knock of 43 runs in 27 balls, however, his partner Quinton De Cock had to move to pavilion soon and he only could manage to score 4 runs.

De Villiers and Virat Kohli (31) stitched together a third wicket stand of 64 runs off just 36 balls. Along with them, both teams will heavily rely on their other spinners as well with Piyush Chawla and Sunil Narine for Kolkata and Washington Sundar and Pawan Negi for Bangalore. Rana's first-ball, a half-tracker, was disdainfully pulled over the midwicket boundary in what seemed a continuation of de Villiers' dominance. We made a pretty good game out of it, to drag it till the 19th over and take those wickets was a big positive.

RCB have the world-class batting talent in the form of Kohli, Quinton de Kock, Brendon McCullum and AB de Villiers. Two wickets also fell in that over.

One of the favorites to go all the way in this year's Indian Premier League (IPL), Royal Challengers Bangalore kick off their campaign with a clash against two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on April 8. AB de Villiers was off to a blazing start.

"The RCB class of 2018 is exciting, a balance of youth and experience, fresh and resolved to delight our supporters around the country, to realise our potential on the field and, hopefully, to take the trophy", De Villiers further writes. Captain Virat Kohli came into bat kept the scoring rate going, while McCullum was busy punishing the bowlers. Mitchell Johnson, 10. Vinay Kumar/Kamlesh Nagarkoti, 11.

But skipper Karthik (35 off 29 balls not out) maintained his composure and starred in a 55-run partnership with Nitish Rana to eventually seal the chase with seven balls to spare.
