Andrew Luck: I'm not a ideal feeling athlete right now

Andrew Luck: I'm not a ideal feeling athlete right now

"There are things in my throwing motion that I can do better from the ground up", Luck said, "and that's a big part of what I've been working on is making sure I'm using my body as efficiently as possible to throw the football and not over or under compensate in any way".

Luck clarified what had been reported regarding the comments of new Colts head coach Frank Reich last week.

That's not a particularly surprising statement considering he hasn't been healthy enough to play in a football game since the end of the 2016 season. More importantly, I trust myself in this process. "There is still a bit of a journey left and I'm not going to skip any steps".

Luck said he was not ready to disclose the timetable of his return, but that he will get back on the field better than ever.

He added of his recovery: "I've skipped steps before and I've paid for it before, and I'm not gonna do that again".

The Colts' franchise quarterback said he understands fans' skepticism about making a return this season, but he said "I appreciate their patience". The team also owns four of the first 49 picks in the upcoming NFL Draft, with plenty of cap room to add a few more veterans before camp begins.

Luck and the organization are taking a cautious stance this offseason after getting burned by their open optimism past year.

Luck finally returned to the team facility in late December and has spent most of the past three months working out in California with noted quarterback experts Tom House and Adam Dedeaux. "But I am", he said.

Although Luck is hoping to be ready for training camp, he wouldn't reveal when he might be ready to throw an NFL football.

"Very, very confident. Very optimistic that I will come back better than I was". "I'll be a better quarterback, a better teammate, a better person and I'm very confident". "So I've learned from that, and that's why I feel so strongly about the process and the plan that I'm on now".
