Facebook Fails Again, Plans To Correct Messenger 'Unsend' Feature

The EU wrote to Facebook last week to ask how many Europeans were affected by the growing scandal over the harvesting of personal data which was then shared with British political consultancy Cambridge Analytica.

It could be a survey, a game or another application that allows users a single sign-on with their Facebook log-in.

Sandberg said Facebook first became aware in 2015 that Cambridge Analytica had obtained user data from a researcher who put up a poll on the social network.

It is now broadening its investigation by joining the B.C. privacy czar's probe of Victoria-based firm AggregateIQ, which began late previous year, to determine whether the company broke privacy laws.

If you've downloaded the giant file of all the data Facebook has on you, you know that includes every embarrassing message you've ever sent.

"We believe that when you visit a page or see an ad on Facebook, it should be clear who it's coming from", the statement said. Labels clearly marking these ads as political will roll out in the US later this spring, and all of these transparency features will be rolled out worldwide in the coming months, the company said Friday. And people using our secret message feature in the encrypted version of Messenger have the ability to set a timer - and have their messages automatically deleted. "We did so in full compliance with our legal obligations to preserve messages". More recently, Facebook is facing another backlash after it deleted messages sent by Zuckerberg from users' inboxes. According to Quartz, Facebook had announced requirements for purchasing electoral ads back in October but is now expanding them to "issue" ads, which are largely what Russians were running on US Facebook ahead of the 2016 presidential election.

Facebook has implemented this type of feature in its products before. "I am not going to sit here and say that we're not going to find more because we are", Sandberg said in an interview to NBC.

It turns out that there is a Facebook Messenger unsend feature - but only Facebook elite have access to it. And until this feature is ready, we will no longer be deleting any executives' messages.
