Donald Trump considered Federal Bureau of Investigation inquiry to disprove lewd dossier, James Comey says

He also says he made a conscious effort to check the president's hand size, saying it was "smaller than mine, but did not seem unusually so".

Comey's book, 'A Higher Loyalty, ' will be on sale next Tuesday and is already climbing the best-seller charts based on pre-orders.

Donald Trump considered asking the FBI to investigate lurid claims against him involving prostitutes to reassure his wife Melania they were untrue, the agency's former boss has said.

President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump arrive at a "celebration of military mothers" event at the White House.

The dismissal led Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to appoint Special Counsel Robert Mueller to oversee the probe.

Trump tried to convince Comey the Moscow prostitute portion of the dossier was not true.

The book is sure to ignite a backlash from Mr Trump, who has previously attacked Mr Comey as a "showboat" and a "liar".

Comey's account lands at a really delicate second for Trump and the White Dwelling. This week, the Federal Bureau of Investigation raided the offices and home of Trump's personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, based on a referral from Mueller to the USA attorney of the Southern District of NY. But I think, ultimately, he's going to help Trump.

President Donald Trump was sweating the infamous, and unverified, pee tape, James Comey claims in his new book. Stephanopoulos presses in a promo for the interview.

"I don't know James Comey, but I'm certainly not someone who would have any desire to criticize or bring him down", he said.

It comes as the Republican Party launched a smear campaign against Mr Comey in anticipation of his tell-all book, which is expected to be heavily critical of Mr Trump.

According to the Daily Beast news website, Mr Comey claims in his memoir that John Kelly, who was then head of the Department of Homeland Security, called him within minutes of his dismissal to offer his support. Bob Corker laughed on Thursday when Business Insider asked him about, and said he respected Comey's public service. "Team Trump wanted to change that", he writes. After he was sacked, it was discovered that Comey had kept contemporaneous memos regarding his interactions with Trump; in one leaked memo, Comey wrote that Trump asked him to "let go" of potential charges against former national security advisor Michael Flynn. Comey said he left out one detail involving an allegation that the prostitutes had urinated on a bed once used by the Obamas.

Mr Comey also describes the president weighing whether to ask the FBI to investigate, with an eye toward debunking, a salacious allegation involving Mr Trump and Russian prostitutes in a Moscow hotel.
