Ocala school shooting suspect now charged with terrorism

Police say "active shooter protocols" saved students' lives as a gunman opened fire at a Florida high school, injuring one student in the ankle, in what is now the 20th school shooting in the USA this year.

"I knew I needed to do something", Lane Murdock, a sophomore at Ridgefield High School in CT who helped organize the walkout, told ABC News.

Organizers said an estimated 150,000 students protested Friday at more than 2,700 walkouts, including at least one in each state, as they sought to sustain a wave of youth activism that drove a larger round of walkouts on March 14. Ham told reporters the shooter fired at the bottom of a classroom door, which was locked, and pellets struck the victim in the ankle.

A handcuffed Sky Bouche appeared Saturday at the Marion County Jail prior to Decide Willard Pope through video convention.

"That's why I put down the gun".

A sheriffs deputy, who also was a resource officer at the school, arrested Bouche nearly immediately after he fired that one shot, authorities said.

"It doesn't make it better, anyway", he said before he was led into a police van.

"I shot through the door", he said, looking at a female reporter who asked about his connection to the student who had been shot.

The Ocala shooting also coincided with a nationwide student walkout to protest gun violence on the anniversary of the 19th anniversary of the 1999 massacre at Colorado's Columbine High School.

A gunman who carried a shotgun at a guitar case and started fire at a Florida high school was refused bond during his first courtroom appearance. The students were evacuated and the high school placed on lockdown, along with 17 other schools in the area.

In the Ocala incident, Chris Oliver told the Ocala Star-Banner that his 16-year-old son, a Forest student, told him the shooting happened near his classroom Friday morning.

In a photograph Mailhiot shared on social media, the classroom door is invisible behind a tall pile of furniture. In the Parkland shooting, school resource officer Scot Peterson retired amid accusations he didn't do enough to confront the Stoneman Douglas gunman.

"The shooting was intentional", Woods said, adding that while the investigation is ongoing and it came to a safe conclusion, he will not release additional information.

Woods praised the quick response by Long, as well as school personnel and first responders.

He also said the campus is on a code yellow, meaning no one is allowed to enter or leave the campus and movement is restricted to the campus. Ocala students said they had been planning to participate.

"I didnt kill anyone", he said again, this time, to the female reporter.
