Two new Star Trek movies are in the works

Besides informing that "A Quiet Place" sequel is now in development, Paramount CEO Jim Gianopulos further hyped audiences by announcing that the studio is now developing two "Star Trek" movies.

But stoking the most anticipation was last December's Deadline report that Quentin Tarantino pitched an R-rated Star Trek film to Abrams and Paramount that the Pulp Fiction writer-director suggested he would helm. It also gives us plenty of things to speculate about. J.J. Abrams confirmed the story back in 2016, saying it would involve sort sort of time travel element and reunite long-lost father and son.

The other movie could be based in either timeline and take place during any era.

The direction of the Star Trek series has been uncertain following the release of Star Trek Beyond in 2016.

Expectations will, as always, be high. Fresh contracts would have to be drawn up, making the project pricey, but Star Trek is a crown jewel for Paramount. Sources now say the film is being written and would not debut until after Star Trek 4. The British director helmed early episodes of Marvel's Jessica Jones and The Defenders for Netflix, and her TV helming credits also include episodes of Vinyl, Dig and Orange Is the New Black. That is being scripted by The Revenant scribe Mark L. Smith. Because there was a script being written before Quentin Tarantino came up with his idea for a potential film. "So I don't know what is going to happen", said Zachary. Quentin is off doing another movie. "All of us are really excited about the idea of working with Quentin on a Trek film", he told ET Canada. So I don't know. As of now, though, there are only two specific Trek films in development, and it looks like S.J. Clarkson's Star Trek 4 will be hitting theaters first.

When it comes to Star Trek 4, only the vaguest plot details are available.
