Louis - the newborn stingray named after the Royal Baby

The royal couple shared the news of royal baby No. 3's name with a statement released by Kensington Palace.

He will be know as "His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge".

Kate Middleton and Prince William's new baby officially has a name.

Some fans joked that the new baby was named after the star.

Prince William and Kate Middleton chose to name their third royal baby "Louis" for a simple reason. Yesterday, it was announced that they would name him Louis, and that he would be known as His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge.

William and Kate's third child was born Monday, a brother to 4-year-old Prince George and Princess Charlotte, who is nearly 3.

His uncle, Prince Harry has spent most of his life being third in line to the throne, but has found himself being bumped down to sixth in line.

While the name Louis does not have especially strong ties to the British monarchy, it is believed the newborn may be named after Lord Louis Mountbatten, Prince Charles' great-uncle. In addition to the kings of France, there are the pioneers in science and innovation Louis Braille and Louis Pasteur as well as jazz legend Louis Armstrong, fashion designer Louis Vuitton, "The X Factor" host Louis Walsh and One Direction singer Louis Tomlinson. The entire world is eagerly awaiting the reveal of the new prince's name, amongst any other updates on the new royal bundle of joy.

"Using Louis twice would have been the couple's choice - they clearly regard it as a nice name". It's a name more popularly associated with the French monarchy.

His birth was also a significant moment for Charlotte, the first princess who will not be overtaken in the line of succession by her younger brother. But it is a Windsor family name.
