Saudi, US Agree to Confront Iran's 'Destabilizing Regional Behavior'

New US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo stressed the need for unity among Gulf allies during a brief visit to Riyadh on Sunday as Washington aims to muster support for new sanctions against Iran.

"What the U.S. secretary of state calls cooperation with Riyadh is in fact aimed at destabilization and further escalation of conflicts, arms race and extremism due to adventurism of some inexperienced and warmongering politicians of Saudi Arabia", Ghasemi said.

"We have a common challenge, which is Iran, and I think they all recognize it, and we hope they will resolve their dispute in their own way", said Pompeo.

In Riyadh yesterday Mr Pompeo reiterated President Trump's threat to terminate the 2015 nuclear agreement with Iran.

The audience was attended by Minister of State and Cabinet member Dr. Musaed Al-Aiban, Minister of Health Dr. Tawfiq Al-Rabiah, Minister of Foreign Affairs Adel Al-Jubeir, and a number of officials of the World Health Organization.

The two suspects are accused of plotting a terrorist act in the Haj season for Islamic State (IS) militant group.

"The erroneous and false claim made again regarding Yemen is not true and is only aimed at deflecting the attention of the global public opinion from the crimes committed by Saudi Arabia in its aggression against Yemen".

"It is just a raw and worthless claim in order to perpetuate Saudi Arabia's conflagration and aggression against Yemen, and continue the destructive and destabilizing presence of foreign powers in the region", Qassemi charged.
